Tallgrass Prairie Conservation Initiative

Ducks Unlimited has initiated a habitat improvement partnership with six east central South Dakota Conservation Districts to address grassland loss and poor range condition in the Tallgrass Prairie ecozone. Other partners in the project include the South Dakota Conservation Commission, SDDGFP, USFWS, and many private landowners. Since the initiative started in 2004, 28 separate landowners have implemented prescribed, managed grazing systems on 4,742 acres in the project area. Participants have also converted 133 acres of cropland to grassland and developed one new two-acre wetland.
